Sulforaphane is a phytochemical found in broccoli, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. In fact all vegetables all within the cruciferous group contain sulforaphane. Phytochemicals are anti-oxidants that cancel out free radicals within the body. Free radicals are involved in weakening and damaging cells in the body and have been linked to cancer production.

There are thousands of studies that have been performed looking at the benefits of sulforaphane. Many of the studies have found that there may be cancer protection and prevention properties to it. It also may help decrease tumor growth in animals that have been diagnosed with cancer.

Avmaquin supplement for dogs

Nutramax, a nutraceutical company, has extensively studied sulforaphane and created a product with broccoli seed and sprout extract as well as Maitake mushroom extract and yeast extract. This product has been shown to produce sulforaphane that is able to be utilized by dogs. It is as easy as feeding one tablet on an empty stomach per day to your dog. This may be an easy way to help prevent those cancer making breeds (ie Golden Retrievers, Boxers, Bernese Mountain dogs).

Avmaquin can be purchased on the Nutramax website or through Amazon at this link.
